Manager guide
Coverage counts come from the current export: 4 roles, filtered to hireable characters only.
How staff task priorities work
The official staff task order for Update #2. It is one venue-wide queue, not a separate queue per role.

One queue, not four
Every hired character draws from the same ordered list. Serving a meal outranks processing, cooking, taking orders, cleanup and the manager and cleaner tasks below it.
Why the order encourages specialization
Because the list is shared, one character covering every job keeps switching work instead of finishing one. The current build explicitly encourages narrower roles.
Specialize your team
A generalist is not a bad hire — until the venue gets busy. The same priority queue is easier to clear when each character owns fewer tasks.
One person, many jobs
- Cooking
- Serving
- Cleaning
When a single character is expected to cook, serve and clean, high-priority work can pull them away from everything else in the list.
Specialized team
Cooking
Meal production and processing
Serving
Customer orders and service
Cleaning
Cleanup of trash and storage
Managing
Ingredients and complaints
A dedicated cook, server, cleaner and manager each face a shorter list, so the venue-wide queue is easier to drain.
Specialization is the goal here, not a rule. How far you take it depends on your venue, menu and budget.

Staff bots
Of the hireable pool, 10 characters are staff bots. They are a separate system from story characters.

Does your team cover every job?
Count the roles you have covered. This is a coverage check, not a throughput calculator.
Role coverage
- CookingCovered
- ServingCovered
- CleaningNo dedicated role
- ManagingCovered
No dedicated coverage for: Cleaning. Work those roles normally handle can fall back on other staff through the shared queue.
This does not predict how many customers your venue can handle. Seat count, menu, equipment and stock all affect throughput.
More staff won't fix every bottleneck
Orders can pile up for reasons that are not headcount. Check the rest of the chain before hiring more.
Enough cooks?
Do you also have enough working kitchen and processing equipment for them?
Enough servers?
Are orders and meals actually being produced fast enough to serve?
Is the manager working?
Are ingredients reaching the venue, or is stock the real limit?
Staff are one link in the chain. Equipment, stock and the manager can each cap throughput on their own.
Quest-linked recruitment
Hireable is a static data flag. Whether a character can be hired right now also depends on progression and your save.
Hireable is potential, not availability
The current export marks 451 characters as hireable. That is the whole candidate pool, not a list of people available to hire in your current save.
13 of them are quest-linked: their recruitment is tied to a quest or story step rather than a plain hire.
See the recruit questA quest-linked candidate shows a badge instead of a plain availability label. Open the recruitment requirement before assuming you can hire them immediately.
This page lists skills. The person page and the quest own who they are and how to recruit them.
Work schedules, wages and happiness
Skills are static character facts. Wage, working hours, happiness and current venue belong to the save.
Static character data
- Recorded venue skills and levels
- Hireable, quest-linked and story flags
- Staff bot line and tier
Save-state data
- Wage and last wage paid
- Working hours and base hours
- Happiness and skill/wage influence
- Current venue and hiring status
Not available from static character data. A save analyser or the assistant can read these once a save is provided.
Schedules are not work shifts
NPC world schedules are authored daily routines, not the shifts you assign to employees. This page never presents one as the other.
Staff not doing what you expect?
Symptom-first cards route each problem to the page that owns the fix.
Current known issue
Staff can get completely stuck in some situations in the current build. This is a versioned game issue, not a sign of a bad hire.
Official workaround: try reducing the number of hired staff at that venue.
Open the staff troubleshooterStaff completely stuck
The current build has a known stuck issue with an official workaround.
DiagnoseCustomers waiting too long
Check role coverage and equipment before assuming you need more staff.
DiagnoseManager not restocking
Manager purchasing is its own system with a dedicated diagnoser.
DiagnoseBusiness still losing money
Wages are only one possible cause. Diagnose the whole venue first.
Diagnose
A slow venue and a stuck character are different problems. Check whether staff are moving at all before changing your team.
Staff questions
The questions players actually search, answered from the recorded data and the current official behavior.
- How do staff skills work in Nivalis Nights?
- Hireable characters record one or more venue skills. A character can carry several skills at different levels, so a skill is a profile, not a fixed class.
- What is the best staff in Nivalis Nights?
- There is no single best employee. The data records top levels per skill, but the right hire depends on the role you need, the secondary skills and the recruitment requirements.
- Is there a best cook-to-server ratio?
- No universal ratio is published. Seat count, menu, equipment, stock and skill all change the answer, so this page does not invent one.
- How much do staff cost?
- Wages belong to your save, not to the static character data. This page cannot state a fixed wage per character.
- Can I set staff work schedules here?
- No. Employee hours are save-state data, and NPC world schedules are not work shifts.
- Why are my staff stuck?
- A completely stuck character is a known issue in the current build. The official workaround is to reduce hired staff at that venue.
- Should I specialize my staff?
- The official task order encourages it. Specialized characters face a shorter share of the venue-wide queue, which helps when the venue is busy.
- Are staff bots worth hiring?
- Bots are hireable characters with a single service skill that scales from 1 to 5. They are a separate line from story characters and have no recruitment quest.
