How recipe customization works
The rules behind the slots, in plain terms.

Not every recipe can be customized
Some recipes are fixed. Only a recipe whose customization rule is verified is treated as changeable here.

Not every ingredient slot is replaceable
Each recipe declares its own ingredient slots, and a slot can be changeable or fixed.

Each replaceable slot has its own options
A slot offers a specific set of replacements. The same ingredient can be allowed in one recipe and not in another.

Preparation and replacement are separate rules
How an ingredient can be cooked is not evidence of which ingredients can replace it.
Why can't I change this ingredient?
The solver separates three different reasons instead of a single yes or no.
The ingredient is fixed
The recipe's verified rule marks this slot as not replaceable.
The rule is not verified
This recipe's allowed replacement list has not been extracted yet, so a swap can be neither confirmed nor denied.
The ingredient is not offered
The recipe's verified rule has a candidate list, and this ingredient is not on it.
Unknown is not the same as invalid
When a swap cannot be proven, the solver shows Unknown instead of claiming the ingredient cannot be used.
What this tool does not do
The solver reports only rules it can verify.
Same category is not a substitution rule
Two ingredients sharing a tag, type or category is not evidence that one can replace the other.
Preparation is not substitution
Processing options describe how an ingredient can be cooked. They are never used to infer replacements.
